The Science Festival Program
PhD students and researchers from UMET, UCCS, and LASIRE are getting involved in the Science Festival!
What is the Science Festival?
It’s a national event featuring a variety of scientific activities across France.
In the Hauts-de-France region, two main events are planned:
-
October 2-5 (at the Institut Pasteur) and October 9-12 (at the Gymnase de Lille):
The “Sciences Infusent” Pathway, organized by the University, will offer visitors the chance to explore workshops from UMET and LASIRE. -
October 9-11 (at the Lewarde Mining Center):
The CNRS Festival, where UCCS will lead a hands-on workshop.
For 2025, the national theme is “Intelligence(s)”.
Our scientists have therefore designed science outreach activities related to this topic.
UMET Workshop:
Through a series of mini-workshops, PhD students and researchers from UMET will explore how computers support materials science.
Computers help us better understand matter, assist in the design of new materials, and improve both manufacturing processes and analysis of existing materials.
LASIRE Workshop:
This activity focuses on the small water cycle, the journey water takes from its source (in a river or groundwater) to its release back into the natural environment.
The workshop will take the form of a board game, similar to Snakes and Ladders, helping participants learn about good environmental practices and understand the impact of human actions on water quality.
UCCS Workshop:
This workshop invites visitors to dive into the world of chemistry enhanced by Artificial Intelligence.
Through a game-based experience, participants will discover how AI guides chemists toward faster and more environmentally friendly syntheses.
Discover the workshops on our special “Science Festival” episode of Maté’Radio, broadcast on Wednesday, October 1 at 5 p.m. on Radio Campus (106.6).
